After returning from the Microsoft Dynamics Technical Conference, in Seattle last month I downloaded and installed the business process testing tool from Microsoft Connect and discovered a couple of issues.

In the instructions, it shows the command to install the package as
msiexec /i BPTTR3.msi InstallDir= "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Client\Bin"

However in order to get the command to work you must remove the space after the InstallDir=
msiexec /i BPTTR3.msi InstallDir="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Client\Bin"

The package will then install correctly.

However, when I ran the playback function, it was looking for the playback program in the test script directory, so I copied all the files from the
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Client\Bin\Business Process Testing Tool directory with the exception of the .xpo files to the test script directory and the playback function worked.

When you are creating your test cases, the test case Microsoft Excel spreadsheet name must match the name of the node exactly, otherwise the playback can’t find the spreadsheet. In my simple test case, I created a task recorder script to add a record to the vendor group table in Accounts Payable.

When I generated the excel template document, it showed me the following columns:

Key Update Record? Filter Grid Name Filter Key Filter Value Description|Grid Terms of payment|Grid Settle period|Grid

I added my test record:

Key Update Record? Filter Grid Name Filter Key Filter Value Description|Grid Terms of payment|Grid Settle period|Grid
70 Vendor 70 Cash Cash

When I ran the playback it did not enter the key to the Vendor Group file so the update process failed, I entered the Vendor Group field explicitly in the table myself:

Key Update Record? Filter Grid Name Filter Key Filter Value Vendor Group|Grid Description|Grid Terms of payment|Grid Settle period|Grid
70 70 Vendor 70 Cash Cash

I re-ran the playback and the test case data was entered into the table successfully.
